22/07/2010 - CPI'S PILING STRUCTURAL CONCRETE HELPS SAVE OFFICE BUILDINGS

Showing signs of collapse with a fracture running from the top to the bottom of the building, site investigations quickly showed a void underneath the building. To fill the cavity and save the buildings from further collapse, specialist foundation engineers, Van Elle called in CPI EuroMix.

CPI EuroMix provided over 300 tonnes of grout to fill the void. The material was supplied in the company’s innovative Silo Mixing Station and simply pumped into the void underneath the building.

The Silo Mixing Station was originally developed for the onsite production of brick laying mortar. However, CPI EuroMix has developed the system so that it can be used on civil projects for the production of piling grout and structural concrete.

The silo is filled with dry material and delivered to site. Once on site it is simply plugged into power and water supplies and at the press of a button, mixed concrete is produced. Discharged via a connecting pipe, it enables the concrete to be pumped around the sites as required, without the need to move the silo.
The system eliminates the need for ready-mix tanker deliveries, meaning there is no waiting around or lost man hours on site. It also abolishes the logistical issues associated with inner city projects. In addition, the Silo Mixing Station means operators can produce the exact amount of material required, ensuring a stop to unnecessary waste.

Like all CPI products, the structural concrete is manufactured under the BS EN ISO 9001:2000 quality system – the international standard of excellence – and is available from the company’s network of plants throughout the UK and Ireland.
